Ex-USEC. Cabral’s driver now a ‘person of interest’: PNP

The Philippine National Police (PNP) now considers former Department of Public Works and Highways Undersecretary Catalina Cabral’s driver, Carlo Hernandez, “person of interest” after her sudden death.

Cabral who died after allegedly falling from a cliff along Kennon Road in Tuba, Benguet, according to police Thursday night.

“Labag daw po sa human nature na yung principal or VIP mo iiwan mo sa liblib na lugar, alam mo naman yung bag at cellphone nasa sasakyan ninyo at babalikan mo sya 1 to 2 hours,” PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño told the press.

(It goes against human nature to leave your principal or VIP in a remote area, especially when you know that the bag and cellphone are in your vehicle, and then come back for them one to two hours later.)

In a video circulating online, Hernandez recounts the events leading to the death of Cabral. He mentioned that Cabral ordered him to stop at the Kennon Road and be left there around 3:00 pm. He complied and used the time to go to a nearby gasoline station.

When he came back for Cabral around 5:00 pm he allegedly failed to see her. Hernandez decided to go back to the hotel where Cabral was staying, but she was not there as well.

Hernandez reported the incident to the authorities around 7:00 PM, an hour after that, Cabral’s body was found at the side of Bued River 20 meters below the highway.

Catalina Cabral’s family has refused for her body to undergo autopsy.
