MANILA – The European Union will provide Php 10.9 million in humanitarian assistance to communities affected by recent southwest monsoon flooding in parts of Luzon.
The EU Delegation in Manila said Friday the aid will benefit more than 32,000 people in some of the hardest-hit areas, including the Ilocos Region, Central Luzon and Metro Manila.
The Philippine Red Cross will distribute essential household items such as sleeping kits, water containers and hygiene supplies, while also providing hot meals and safe drinking water in evacuation centers and affected communities.
Mobile health teams will also offer medical consultations, medicines, health information and mental health support.
The assistance will include hygiene promotion and disease monitoring to help reduce the risk of water-borne and vector-borne illnesses.
The EU said the funding forms part of its contribution to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies’ Disaster Response Emergency Fund.
The new assistance is on top of more than EUR2 million already allocated to humanitarian partners in the Philippines at the start of 2026.
Prolonged southwest monsoon rains in August triggered widespread flooding and landslides in several parts of Luzon, damaging homes, roads, bridges, farms, water systems and power lines.
As of Sept. 14, more than 10.5 million people had been affected across 11 regions, while over 120,100 people remained displaced in more than 500 evacuation centers.
