Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin formally submitted his courtesy resignation on Thursday, pledging a prompt and orderly turnover of all pending matters in his office.
In his resignation letter, Bersamin expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
“It has been an honor to be part of your Cabinet. I hereby respectfully tender my courtesy resignation as Executive Secretary, Office of the President. Upon your acceptance, I will immediately begin the orderly turnover of all pending matters in my office,” he stated.
Bersamin’s move aligns with President Marcos’ directive requiring all Cabinet members to submit courtesy resignations as part of an ongoing performance evaluation.
Despite stepping down, Bersamin affirmed his continued support for the President’s vision of a “Bagong Pilipinas” (New Philippines).
“I remain committed to serving the Filipino people and supporting your vision for a Bagong Pilipinas,” he said.
Appointed in 2022, Bersamin previously served as Chief Justice before taking on the role of Executive Secretary. Often dubbed the “Little President,” the Executive Secretary plays a crucial role in assisting the President with managing government affairs and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Executive Office.
The Office of the Executive Secretary (OES) holds a distinct position in government, performing both staff functions — serving the President directly — and line functions — managing the Office of the President and its attached agencies. It may also carry out additional duties as mandated by law or at the President’s discretion.
