Easterlies, ‘amihan’ to drench parts of Phl

Several areas in the country will experience rains caused by the easterlies and the northeast monsoon or “amihan”, the state weather bureau said on Monday.

Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the easterlies are forecast across Eastern and Central Visayas, Negros Island Region, Caraga, Sorsogon, Masbate, Capiz, Iloilo, Davao Oriental, and Davao de Oro.

Moderate to heavy rains in those areas could result in flash floods and landslides, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

“Amihan” will bring light rains over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Aurora, and isolated light rains over Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, the rest of Central Luzon, and Calabarzon.

The rest of the country will experience isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by the easterlies.

Strong to gale winds and rough to very rough seas will prevail across Northern Luzon.

Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough coastal waters are forecast in the Visayas, the rest of Luzon, and the northern and eastern sections of Mindanao.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas.

As of 4:00 a.m., no low pressure area was monitored for possible tropical cyclone formation, PAGASA said. (PNA)
