Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) secured a crucial victory over San Sebastian College-Recoletos, 26-24, 25-14, 23-25, 25-18, on Friday, earning a share of the top spot in the NCAA Season 100 men’s volleyball tournament at the San Sebastian College-Recoletos gym.
Frelwin Taculog spearheaded the Generals’ attack with a stellar 22-point performance, complemented by 14 excellent receptions. With the win, EAC joins defending champions University of Perpetual Help Dalta System at the top of the standings with a 2-0 record.
The Altas also improved to 2-0 after Thursday sweeping Jose Rizal University (JRU) in straight sets, 25-20, 25-21, 25-19.
Paul Justine Say contributed 18 points for the Generals, while team captain Jan Ruther Abor added 17. Kenneth Batiancila provided solid support with seven points, including two blocks and one service ace, as EAC wrapped up the match in one hour and 47 minutes.
Kyle Angelo Villamor scored 18 points for San Sebastian, including 15 attacks and three blocks, while recording 16 excellent receptions. The Stags suffered their second season loss following a 25-21, 23-25, 14-25, 14-25 defeat against Mapua University on February 21.
Lady Stags dominate Lady Generals
San Sebastian cruised past EAC in the women’s division in a commanding 25-17, 25-16, 25-13 victory.
Team captain Katherine Santos led the charge with 13 points, delivering 10 attacks and three service aces to guide the Lady Stags to their second win.
Divine Roshielle Garcia added nine points, including six attacks and three aces, while Kristine Joy Dionisio contributed seven points with two blocks. Christina Marasigan chipped in six points as San Sebastian wrapped up the match in just one hour and 12 minutes.
On the other side, Elizza Mae Alimen and Jamaica Villena fought hard for the Lady Generals, scoring seven and six points, respectively. Still, their efforts weren’t enough to prevent EAC from slipping to 0-2.
