Duterte’s arrest sparks debate and reactions on social media

Netizens express their views on the arrest of former president Rodrigo Roa Duterte on Tuesday.

Users on the Threads app have shown support for the former president’s arrest, highlighting how the tables have turned as those once in power now cry for human rights—something countless innocent people did during the controversial and violent war on drugs.

The tables have turned,” a netizen shared on Threads.

Many have also questioned Duterte’s choice of words. While he previously urged the International Criminal Court (ICC) to arrest him during a hearing before the House of Representatives, he later criticized the ICC’s processes after his arrest.

Meanwhile, some users have expressed sympathy for the former president, arguing that his actions during the anti-drug campaign were motivated by a desire to ensure national security and public safety.

As a result, netizens continue to debate in the comments section whether the arrest was legal and lawful, with opinions sharply divided.

As of now, people are waiting to see what actions the former president will take next.
