The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Bicol (DSWD-5) extended financial, food, and non-food assistance to families affected by a tornado in Camarines Norte.
DSWD-5 Director Norman Laurio reported that 103 families in Barangays Bibirao and Magang suffered damage to their homes and properties. Two fatalities were recorded—a 37-year-old woman and a 13-year-old boy struck by a fallen tree—while two others sustained minor injuries.
“Social workers conducted a home visit and provided psychosocial intervention to the grieving families and help them cope with the grief and emotional distress of losing their loved ones,” Laurio said.
Each family that lost a member received PHP25,000 in funeral assistance through a guarantee letter. The agency also distributed 103 family food packs, 15 hygiene kits, 15 kitchen kits, 41 sleeping kits, and 10 family kits, totaling PHP137,319 in urgent aid.
Laurio added that continuous assessment and monitoring are being conducted to identify further needs and interventions for the affected families.
