The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has placed more than 4.3 million family food packs on standby for immediate deployment to communities that may be affected by the continuing volcanic activity of Kanlaon and Taal.
In a statement on Saturday, October 10, the DSWD said it had prepositioned 4,309,859 family food packs (FFPs), 216,343 boxes of ready-to-eat food (RTEF), and 332,716 non-food items (NFIs) in its warehouses nationwide.
The relief supplies are ready for distribution to local government units requiring additional assistance, particularly those implementing precautionary evacuation measures.
Citing the latest monitoring of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the DSWD said Kanlaon Volcano remained under Alert Level 2, while Taal Volcano was under Alert Level 1 as of Saturday.
The agency said it continued coordinating closely with local governments in accordance with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to ensure the timely delivery of assistance to potentially affected families.
The DSWD also urged residents in areas near the two volcanoes to remain vigilant, follow evacuation instructions when issued, and monitor official advisories from local authorities.
The department assured the public that its disaster response teams and relief supplies were ready for deployment should volcanic activity require additional emergency assistance.
