The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Ilocos Region has stepped up efforts to position emergency supplies closer to communities, aiming to speed up response during disasters.
The agency recently extended its Relief Prepositioning Agreement with more local governments, with Currimao in Ilocos Norte among the newest areas covered.
Field workers had started delivering non-food relief items to the town following the signing of the agreement earlier this month, according to regional information officer Kristine Sheila Amoroso.
Initial shipments included at least 160 items such as sleeping kits, kitchen sets, hygiene packs, and tarpaulins, while family food packs were expected to be delivered next.
Officials said the stockpile in Currimao would not only serve residents of the town but also nearby municipalities, allowing quicker distribution of aid during emergencies.
The program forms part of a broader effort to strengthen disaster readiness in line with the national government’s directive to improve pre-disaster planning and response.
Across the Ilocos Region, the agency maintains a network of warehouses and storage hubs that support rapid deployment of relief goods.
These include a regional warehouse, satellite facilities, and multiple prepositioning sites spread across Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and Pangasinan, which can also provide assistance to neighboring areas when needed.
