DSWD-5 distributes PHP1.1-M incentives to 600 student tutors in Bicol

The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Bicol (DSWD-5) has distributed PHP1.1 million in cash-for-training incentives to 600 college student tutors participating in the Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program (TBTP). Each beneficiary received between PHP1,975 and PHP2,075, equivalent to the regional minimum wage, as a recognition of their efforts in building the program’s capacity.

One of the recipients, Mariel Rodrigo, a tutor at Otavi Elementary School, shared her appreciation, saying, “I thank DSWD because I was one of those given assistance that will greatly help me with my school project and other bills.” Similarly, Daniele Gojar, a youth development worker at Lohang Elementary School, expressed gratitude, stating, “I’m very thankful. With this, it will help us with our school bills and also with household expenses.”

The TBTP is an initiative designed to enhance literacy rates across the country by engaging college students as tutors and youth development workers. In return, participants gain valuable work experience and financial support, helping them manage educational and personal expenses.
