DPWH eyes completion of PGH projects by Q1 2027

MANILA – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is looking to complete all the projects inside the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) by first quarter of next year.
DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon said the construction of fences, a sewage treatment plant, a septic tank, and a road network is targeted for completion in early 2027.
“This is a critical project because it involves numerous components – drainage improvements, a septic tank, a sewage treatment plant, (a) road network upgrades, fence repairs, and repainting the facades of various buildings,” he said in an interview with reporters during an inspection at the UP-PGH on Wednesday.
“It is a vital project for PGH, especially since we see water entering the driveway and other parts of the hospital year after year; it is truly unfortunate for the patients and employees who have to deal with the flooding,” he added.
Dizon said the construction progress is now at 30 percent compared to the only around 2 percent when he last visited the area a few months back.
“What is good now in just three months, since we were here in June, we have moved to close to 30 percent already. Remember, one and a half years only 2 percent was done. We are confident, by the early part of next year, all of these will be done… the priority is the drainage,” he said.
Dizon said they hope to finish the drainage work by the end of the year.
“We will push hard and keep a close watch on this. I’ll visit the site several times in the next few months. We are going to focus on this,” he said.
With Dizon during the inspection were DPWH National Capital Region (NCR) Regional Director Joel Limpengco and UP-PGH Director Dr. Gerardo “Gap” Legaspi.
The budget for the repair and rehabilitation project is PHP679 million.
