A double-parking incident that allegedly slowed a Bureau of Fire Protection truck has triggered an LTO investigation, a 90-day preventive license suspension and an alarm on the vehicle involved.
The Land Transportation Office said the case stemmed from a circulating video showing a black sedan occupying part of a narrow road as a fire truck attempted to pass.
The emergency vehicle eventually hit the sedan’s door while maneuvering through the obstruction, according to the agency.
LTO chief Markus Lacanilao ordered the driver and registered owner identified and summoned them to explain possible violations involving prohibited parking and obstruction of traffic.
They were directed to appear before the agency’s Intelligence and Investigation Division on Sept. 18 and submit sworn statements and supporting documents.
The driver was also ordered to surrender the license while the 90-day preventive suspension remains in effect during the investigation.
The LTO said the motorist could face further sanctions, including possible license revocation, if authorities find sufficient grounds under existing rules.
The agency reminded motorists that blocking emergency vehicles can delay critical response time, particularly in fire, rescue and medical emergencies.
