The Department of Tourism (DOT) and Department of Transportation (DOTr), in coordination with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), have launched a 10-day free jeepney ride program in Metro Manila as part of preparations for the Philippines’ hosting of the 49th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and Related Meetings.

The initiative, which begins Thursday, November 5, and runs until November 14, 2026, aims to provide free transportation to commuters while promoting Philippine tourist destinations.

A total of 30 modern jeepneys will be deployed along two major routes, with 15 vehicles assigned to each.

The North Route will operate between SM Fairview and Buendia, while the South Route will serve commuters traveling between Sucat and Baclaran.

Both routes will operate daily from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m., with eight one-way trips scheduled for the North Route and 10 for the South Route.

The program follows the ceremonial signing of a tripartite agreement among the participating government agencies.

Tourism Secretary Dita Angrara-Mathay, who serves as Vice Chair for Operations of the National Organizing Committee, said the initiative seeks to bring the ASEAN Summit closer to Filipinos by providing direct assistance alongside promotional activities.

The modern jeepneys will feature images of popular Philippine tourist destinations and attractions, transforming the vehicles into mobile showcases of the country’s tourism offerings.

The DOT said the initiative is designed to promote the Philippines’ tourism assets while delivering practical benefits to daily commuters.

Meanwhile, DOTr Undersecretary for Road Transport and Infrastructure Mark Steven Pastor, representing Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, emphasized the importance of coordination among government agencies in implementing programs that benefit the public.

Pastor said the initiative reflects a whole-of-government approach to supporting the country’s preparations for hosting the regional summit.

The free ride program is expected to serve commuters along two busy Metro Manila corridors while raising public awareness of the upcoming ASEAN meetings.
