The Department of Labor and Employment in Eastern Visayas said it will roll out additional job fairs across the region to assist workers affected by stalled infrastructure projects.
The initiative followed a job fair held at the Leyte Convention Center on Thursday, which targeted construction workers displaced by project slowdowns linked to flood control issues.
DOLE regional director Dax Villaruel said the activity was primarily intended for affected workers but remained open to other job seekers.
He said the agency continues to provide support measures for laborers who lost employment due to reduced construction activity in recent months.
The Leyte job fair offered 248 vacancies from multiple employers, with dozens of applicants recorded as of early afternoon.
Available positions included engineers in various fields as well as skilled and manual jobs such as welders, pipe fitters, carpenters, electricians, drivers, and laborers.
The activity, dubbed Project DAPAT, involved 11 participating companies and forms part of a broader program designed to help displaced workers through employment and livelihood assistance.
DOLE said it plans to strengthen coordination with industry partners and local stakeholders to respond more quickly to labor disruptions and support affected sectors.
