Puerto Princesa, Palawan – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) on Thursday forged a tie to deliver livelihood packages for the urban poor communities in different localities in this province.

PCUP Commissioner Reynaldo Galupo said the DOLE promised to distribute Integrated Livelihood Packages to marginalized sectors in Barangays Corong-Corong and Bucana in El Nido, the municipality of Taytay, and the Samahan ng Mangingisda Kontra Korapsyon in Puerto Princesa, which he initially identified during his week-long engagement with the urban poor sectors.

“We are glad to announce that DOLE Provincial Director Engr. Rhea Paitan has approved our request for 100 livelihood packages to selected beneficiaries in those areas where we have a dialogue with urban poor leaders,” Galupo said.

The livelihood assistance ranges from NegoKarts, canteens, boats and fishing implements.

“We appreciate the Commissioner’s effort in identifying and facilitating our programs with the sectors that need the DOLE’s assistance. This kind of interaction strengthens the cooperation and collaboration of different government agencies in the service of our people,” Paitan said.

Engr. Paitan said the DOLE Palawan Provincial will wait for the names of the beneficiaries who will be endorsed by Commissioner Galupo’s office before the process formally begins.

Galupo said his office in Quezon City has started reviewing the names of the individuals and organizations who have signified intention to be included in the DOLE’s livelihood program even while he is still in Palawan.

“We would like to expedite the process and hopefully deliver the livelihood packages before Christmas,” he said.
