DOLE aid boosts small businesses, jobs in Surigao del Sur

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur — The Department of Labor and Employment extended livelihood, employment and business support worth a combined Php 11.86 million to beneficiaries in Surigao del Sur.

Among the recipients was Iriberri Bakeshop, which received assistance under DOLE’s Adjustment Measures Program to acquire equipment aimed at improving product quality, sanitation, production efficiency and workplace safety.

DOLE-Surigao del Sur Chief Genebelle Bal said Iriberri Bakeshop was among three establishments that received a combined Php 1.09 million in AMP assistance.

“The new equipment will help us achieve better product quality, improved sanitation, less manual effort, faster production, and a safer and more efficient workplace for our workers,” owner Janise Ann Iriberri said.

DOLE also provided temporary employment to 589 beneficiaries under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers program, with total wages amounting to Php 2.79 million.

A job fair held during the activity also resulted in 52 applicants being hired on the spot.

One of them was Drexler Tagor of Barangay Gamut, Tago, who was hired as a bagger and described the job fair as an opportunity for young people and unemployed residents seeking work.

DOLE said the activity generated a total of Php 11.86 million in livelihood assistance, TUPAD wages and AMP support.
