The Department of Energy (DOE) is calling for stronger collaboration between the government and private sector to accelerate the country’s transition to clean energy.
Speaking at the launch of the Samal Solar Renewable Energy Project in Bataan on Tuesday, DOE Assistant Secretary Mylene Capongcol emphasized the urgency of increasing renewable energy’s (RE) share in the national energy mix to 35% by 2030.
“This solar project is a powerful example of how renewable energy can transform communities,” Capongcol said. “Beyond providing clean power, it creates jobs, builds local capacity, and brings inclusive growth. This is the kind of sustainable development we envision for every region in the country.”
The Samal Solar Renewable Energy Corporation’s new plant is now feeding 41.92 megawatts (MW) of clean energy into the Luzon grid—helping power homes and businesses while reducing carbon emissions.
According to DOE data, the Philippines had 1,392 active renewable energy contracts as of the end of April, contributing a combined installed capacity of 7.05 gigawatts nationwide.
With the energy sector pushing for a cleaner, greener future, the DOE says public-private partnerships will be key to meeting its ambitious energy goals.
