As the nation commemorates the 83rd Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor) on Wednesday, Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. called on Filipinos to rise to the challenge of nation-building.
In a statement, Teodoro expressed his gratitude and respect for all veterans, soldiers, and Filipinos who continue to show courage and patriotism. He emphasized that beyond remembrance, the day serves as a call for everyone to contribute to the country’s progress, peace, and security.
“Yet beyond remembrance, this day calls upon each of us to rise to the challenge of nation-building – to contribute to the continued progress, peace, and security of our beloved country,” he said.
Teodoro urged the public to draw strength from the legacy of bravery and heroism exhibited by Filipino veterans in these uncertain times, reminding Filipinos to “stand united in purpose and resolve.”
“As we commemorate Araw ng Kagitingan, we remember the bravery of those who fought and sacrificed their lives for our country. Their heroism is etched in our nation’s history, a powerful reminder of what it means to be truly Filipino,” he added, affirming that the DND remains dedicated to honoring the legacy of Filipino veterans and protecting the nation’s future.
