MANILA – Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac expressed confidence on Wednesday, October 21, that remittances from overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) would remain stable despite ongoing global crises and security concerns in the Middle East.
Speaking at the Manila Hotel Kapihan forum, Cacdac said the government remains optimistic about the continued flow of remittances from Filipinos working abroad despite international uncertainties.
Meanwhile, the DMW chief confirmed that more than 100 OFWs had been repatriated from Saudi Arabia over the past two days amid heightened security concerns following drone attacks in Riyadh.
Cacdac said the Philippine government is exploring additional measures to assist Filipinos stranded in Saudi Arabia due to flight cancellations resulting from the attacks.
He assured affected OFWs that authorities are working to identify available options to facilitate their safe return to the Philippines.
The flight disruptions have complicated repatriation efforts, prompting the government to consider alternative arrangements for Filipinos seeking to return home.
The DMW continues to coordinate efforts to address the situation of stranded Filipino workers while monitoring developments affecting their safety and welfare.
Despite the challenges, Cacdac maintained a positive outlook on OFW remittances, which remain an important source of financial support for Filipino families and the Philippine economy.
