A Php 100-million eco-tourism project in Dinagat Islands is set to proceed after the provincial government signed an agreement with the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority.
Gov. Nilo Demerey and TIEZA Chief Operating Officer Mark Lapid signed the memorandum of agreement in Manila on Wednesday.
The project will be developed at Gaas Inlet in Barangay Llamera, Libjo, where a boardwalk and facilities leading to water sports areas will be built.
Demerey said the development was expected to highlight the province’s natural attractions and strengthen its position as an emerging eco-tourism destination.
TIEZA will oversee the construction and select a contractor through public bidding under the New Government Procurement Act.
Once completed, the facilities will be turned over to the Dinagat Islands provincial government, which will handle their operation, maintenance and administration.
Demerey said the project would create jobs during construction and open livelihood opportunities for residents after its completion.
He added that the development could draw environmentally conscious visitors, support local businesses and connect conservation efforts with long-term economic growth.
