The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Tuesday cautioned the public about a suspected scammer who has been posing as Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla.

In a statement, the agency said the individual had been contacting several public officials while using the name and photo of the DILG chief.

According to the department, the person allegedly asked for financial assistance supposedly intended for a foundation that was said to have been affected by a fire in Bocaue, Bulacan.

The DILG clarified that the requests did not come from Remulla or from any office under the department.

It stressed that the Interior secretary does not solicit financial contributions from officials or private individuals.

The agency also urged public officials and members of the public to ignore similar messages or calls and to report such incidents to authorities immediately.

Officials said further details about the suspected scammer were not immediately available, including the identities of those who may have been contacted.

The DILG added that it has begun coordinating with law enforcement agencies to investigate the matter and identify the person responsible.
