The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) said Sunday it will continue to broaden free internet coverage across the Philippines.
The announcement coincides with the country’s 32nd anniversary of its first connection to the internet.
The agency said the milestone highlights its goal to ensure that all Filipinos can go online, including those in far-flung areas.
DICT reported that programs such as Free Wi-Fi for All, the National Broadband Program, the Government Network, and the Common Tower initiative are central to improving connectivity.
The department said these projects have already facilitated greater access to education, boosted livelihood opportunities, and made government services more efficient.
Officials emphasized that the expansion of free internet will reach both urban centers and remote communities, including mountainous regions and islands.
The agency described the initiatives as part of its ongoing efforts to reduce digital gaps and enable inclusive access to technology.
The Philippines first went online on March 29, 1994, marking the start of the country’s digital journey.
