MANILA – Erika Deloria was named Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Press Corps Player of the Week for the period of Nov. 3 to 7 following her impressive performance in leading Galeries Tower to its first victory in the All-Filipino Conference Siklab Series.
The 5-foot-7 outside spiker tallied 20 points on 18 attacks and two aces, along with 28 excellent receptions, as the Highrisers defeated Akari, 25-22, 26-24, 23-25, 15-25, 15-10, at Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City on Tuesday.
Galeries tote a 1-4 record, good for eighth place and a game ahead of winless Zus Coffee (0-5).
“I think if you want to be a champion, you have to go through din sa mga tough times din. If malagpasan ‘yung mga ‘yun, naniniwala ako na kaya mong manalo, kaya mong lagpasan lahat ng hirap na ‘yan kasi (I think if you want to be a champion, you have to go through tough times as well. If you can overcome those, I believe you can win, you can get past all those hardships, because) you have to be mentally tough,” Deloria, 20th overall pick in the 2025 draft, said in a PVL news release on Sunday.
“Kahit ayaw mo na mag-training kasi talo ka, kailangan mo pa rin mag-show up. Ganun eh, kailangan mo talagang maging strong (Even if you don’t want to train anymore because you lost, you still have to show up. That’s just how it is, you really have to be strong),” she added.
After the disbandment of Chery Tiggo, which drafted her, Deloria signed with Galeries in January. The Highrisers won just three of their 11 games in the All-Filipino Conference, which Creamline won in April.
The Bacolod City native bested PLDT’s Savi Davison, Nxled’s Brooke Van Sickle and MJ Phillips, Farm Fresh’s Royse Tubino and Akari’s Eli Soyud for the weekly citation, which is determined by print and online reporters covering the pioneering professional volleyball league organized by Sports Vision.
