Defense flags prosecution slides for allegedly anticipating AMLC witness testimony

Defense lawyer Mark Vinluan on Monday questioned the prosecution’s use of presentation slides during the testimony of Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) Executive Director Ronel Buenaventura, saying some of the material appeared to anticipate specific details from the witness.

Vinluan raised the matter during Day 33 of Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial, pointing to instances when the witness allegedly cited specific factual examples that were already reflected in the prosecution’s slides.

“The witness in his testimony pertained to specific factual or specific example. That is hard for anyone to have predicted unless there was a prior correspondence between the person who prepared that slide and the witness himself,” Vinluan said.

He clarified, however, that the defense was not making a direct accusation against either the prosecution or the witness.

“We are not accusing anyone of anything, and we don’t want to belabor this point. We just want to put on the record that the slides seem to be anticipating what the witness is already talking about,” he added.

The defense made the manifestation as Buenaventura continued his testimony before the impeachment court on financial records being presented by the prosecution in support of its case against Duterte.
