Davao Occidental hit by aftershocks, Mindoro records quake

A series of aftershocks struck Davao Occidental on Tuesday, while a separate earthquake was recorded in Occidental Mindoro, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The strongest aftershock measured magnitude 5.3 and occurred off Sarangani, Davao Occidental, at a depth of 10 kilometers. It was followed by a magnitude 4.5 tremor.

Phivolcs said both earthquakes were aftershocks of the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that hit the Mindanao region in June.

Instrumental Intensity I from the magnitude 5.3 aftershock was recorded in General Santos City, Malungon in Sarangani, Tupi, and parts of South Cotabato.

Meanwhile, a magnitude 4.2 tectonic earthquake jolted Occidental Mindoro.

The quake’s epicenter was located 12 kilometers northwest of Abra de Ilog and had a depth of 74 kilometers.

Phivolcs recorded Instrumental Intensity II in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro, while Intensity I was observed in the towns of Looc and Magsaysay in Occidental Mindoro.
