The Department of Agriculture (DA) in the Davao Region has stepped up efforts to open overseas markets for local mango growers, with South Korea identified as a key destination.
Agriculture officials said engagements with a South Korean firm were part of ongoing initiatives to connect farmers with international buyers and expand export opportunities.
A visiting executive from a South Korea-based company inspected several mango farms in the region and noted the fruit’s quality and taste, describing it as suitable for export.
The visit covered producer groups in the Island Garden City of Samal, Matanao in Davao del Sur, and Digos City, where farmers have been preparing for possible market expansion.
Authorities said discussions also focused on meeting strict food safety standards required by foreign buyers, particularly compliance with limits on pesticide residues.
The Korean firm offered to share its organic farming protocols and expressed openness to pilot testing with local farmer groups interested in exporting.
Agriculture officials said they have been working since last year to position mango producers as competitive suppliers in the global market while ensuring consistent quality and safety.
Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority showed that mango output in the region reached 5,708.90 metric tons in the third quarter of 2025, making it one of the top fruit crops in the area.
