Cooper Kupp heads to Seattle: Signs 3-yr, $45M deal with Seahawks

After spending eight seasons as a cornerstone of the Los Angeles Rams’ offense, Cooper Kupp is returning to familiar territory. According to multiple reports, the former Super Bowl MVP and Eastern Washington University standout has agreed to a three-year, $45 million contract with the Seattle Seahawks.

Kupp, a native of Yakima, Washington, took to social media on Friday to confirm the news, expressing his excitement about returning to his home state.

“Washington back across my chest. Let’s go!!!!!” Kupp wrote, signaling his eagerness to contribute to his new team.

A fresh start in Seattle
Kupp’s departure from the Rams became inevitable after the team failed to find a suitable trade partner. Los Angeles ultimately opted to release him, ending an era that saw Kupp rise to prominence as one of the league’s top receivers. The 30-year-old will now step into a Seattle offense that has significantly changed recently.

The Seahawks’ receiving corps looks vastly different heading into the 2025 season. With the departures of long-time standout Tyler Lockett and star receiver DK Metcalf—who was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers—Kupp is expected to be the veteran presence in a group that includes promising young talent, most notably Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

Initially drafted in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, Kupp quickly became a key weapon for the Rams. His career reached its peak during the 2021 season when he led the NFL in receptions (145), receiving yards (1,947), and touchdowns (16), securing the elusive “triple crown” and playing a pivotal role in the Rams’ Super Bowl LVI victory. His performance in the championship game earned him Super Bowl MVP honors.

However, Kupp’s production has dipped recently due to injuries and the Rams’ offensive scheme changes. Last season, he managed 710 receiving yards and six touchdowns on 67 receptions as the Rams finished with a 10-7 record before falling to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC divisional round.

A new opportunity with the Seahawks
As Seattle continues its transition under head coach Mike Macdonald, Kupp’s arrival provides the team with a proven playmaker and a reliable target for quarterback Geno Smith. While he may not replicate his 2021 dominance, his experience and route-running ability will be crucial in stabilizing the Seahawks’ offense.

With the 2025 season on the horizon, Kupp is set to embark on the next chapter of his career in front of a home-state crowd. Seahawks fans can look forward to seeing the former Rams star donning the navy and green, ready to make an impact in Seattle’s quest to return to playoff contention.
