Police arrested five people and seized an estimated Php 2.47 million worth of cooking palm oil in Nabua, Camarines Sur, during an operation tied to an alleged violation of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) law.
The raid was carried out on Aug. 26 through a search warrant issued in connection with Republic Act No. 9711, or the Food and Drug Administration Act of 2009.
Authorities recovered containers holding about 76 kilograms and 56.4 liters of cooking palm oil, along with three digital weighing scales, a closed van and several documents.
The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) said the five suspects were taken into custody, while another person linked to the case remained at large.
The arrested individuals and seized items were brought to the CIDG Camarines Sur Provincial Field Unit for documentation and proper disposition.
Police said appropriate charges were being pursued as investigators continued looking into the circumstances surrounding the seized products and the involvement of the suspects.
“We will continue to do our job, especially when there are concerns involving products that reach our communities. Ang mahalaga, napoprotektahan natin ang publiko at nasisiguro na nasusunod ang batas,” PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said.
The PNP said follow-up operations were continuing against the remaining suspect as authorities pursued further action under the law.
