The Commission on Elections in Albay urged aspiring barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials to attend pre-filing orientations ahead of the September 28 to October 5 period for certificates of candidacy.

Provincial election supervisor Maria Aurea Bo-Bunao said the voluntary sessions were intended to familiarize prospective candidates with filing procedures and requirements, helping them avoid incomplete submissions and repeated trips to election offices.

The orientations also provide access to COC forms and assistance with other requirements, including information on securing documentary stamps. Aspirants may also attach their biodata or platform to their candidacies.

Bunao reminded prospective candidates to view barangay and SK positions as public service rather than opportunities for personal benefit, noting that barangay officials directly serve communities where they live.

She also encouraged SK aspirants to propose initiatives beyond traditional sports activities and develop programs that could have a broader impact on young people.

Comelec-Albay has been conducting the orientations across the province since August, with additional sessions scheduled through September.

Upcoming schedules include Polangui on August 25, 26, 27 and 29, while several municipalities and cities, including Ligao, Daraga, Legazpi, Tabaco and Libon, will hold sessions in September.

The provincial Comelec office is also finalizing the list of teachers who will serve during the barangay and SK elections.
