Two brothers were arrested after police recovered three allegedly unlicensed firearms and a hand grenade during a search operation in Sibonga, Cebu, on Tuesday, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group said.
The operation was carried out in Barangay Manatad from around 5:45 a.m. to 9:55 a.m. by the CIDG Cebu City Field Unit together with other police units in Central Visayas.
Authorities were serving a search warrant for an alleged violation of Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
The younger brother was allegedly found in possession of a KG9 submachine gun, a .45-caliber pistol and a hand grenade, while police said a .357-caliber revolver was recovered from his older brother.
The CIDG said the brothers failed to present licenses or permits for the firearms. Checks also showed that the seized weapons were allegedly not registered with the Philippine National Police Firearms and Explosives Office.
Police said three heat-sealed sachets containing a white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu were also discovered in the younger brother’s possession during his arrest.
The firearms, grenade and suspected illegal drugs were taken into police custody for documentation and appropriate examination as authorities prepared charges against the suspects.
The CIDG said the operation was part of its campaign to remove loose firearms and other potentially dangerous weapons from circulation and prevent their possible use in criminal activities.
