The Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced it will investigate four candidates accused of violating the campaign ban during Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.
Comelec Chair George Garcia said they received “massive” reports from netizens about candidates who allegedly promoted their candidacies during the Holy Week, despite clear warnings from the poll body.
“Noong Huwebes at Biyernes, meron tayong mga na-monitor,” Garcia said in an interview with Super Radyo dzBB. “Yan ang kaagad nating patitignan at aalamin sa ating mga local Comelec sapagkat may bago kasi tayong pamamaraan syempre ng pangangampanya.”
Garcia noted that many candidates are now using social media to stay visible during the campaign period, even during the Holy Week ban. The Comelec will coordinate with local offices to confirm and act on the violations.
