Comelec to build permanent Calabarzon office in Calamba

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) Region 4-A (Calabarzon) will soon have a permanent regional office in Calamba City following the signing of a Deed of Usufruct Agreement between Comelec Chairperson George Erwin Garcia and Calamba City Mayor Roseller Rizal on Thursday at the Jose Rizal Coliseum.

Garcia said the project is part of Comelec’s nationwide initiative to establish permanent regional offices serving as “one-stop shops” for election-related services. He noted that the Calabarzon office had long operated from rented spaces across Laguna, underscoring the need for a dedicated facility within the Calabarzon Government Regional Center in Barangay Mapagong.

“The establishment of the Comelec regional office here in Calamba City will bring convenience not only to the people of Laguna but also to nearby provinces, as Calamba is centrally located in the region,” Garcia said.

Mayor Rizal expressed full support for the project, calling the usufruct agreement a symbol of shared commitment to improving public service and strengthening democratic institutions.

“This forms part of our continuing partnership with national agencies that aim to bring government services closer to the people,” he said.

During the event, Comelec also relaunched its Register Anywhere Program (RAP) to make voter registration more accessible. The program allows eligible citizens to register, transfer, or update their records at designated sites regardless of residence — including SM City Calamba, the city’s RAP site.
