The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has officially opened the doors to voter registration, calling on the public—especially first-time and young voters—to make their voices count as the countdown to the December 1, 2025 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) begins.
Despite launching on a weekday, the registration drive saw an impressive turnout at election offices, satellite sites across the country, and the Special Register Anywhere/Anytime Program (SRAP) locations in Metro Manila. Comelec Chairperson George Garcia praised the enthusiasm of Filipinos eager to be part of the democratic process.
“This overwhelming response on day one reflects our people’s strong commitment to making their votes matter,” Garcia said. “It’s a powerful reminder that democracy thrives when citizens show up.”
Comelec is aiming to register at least one million new voters within the 10-day registration period, including around 500,000 young Filipinos aged 15 to 17 who will be casting their votes for the first time.
Voter registration runs until August 10, while SRAP services in the National Capital Region will continue until August 7.
For those in or visiting Manila, Garcia extended a special invitation to drop by the Comelec main office in Intramuros. A convenient SRAP site is set up at the Chairman’s Hall on the ground floor of the Palacio del Gobernador, open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. until August 7.
“Take the chance to register while enjoying the charm and history of Intramuros,” Garcia said, encouraging people to blend civic duty with cultural exploration.
