The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has issued a show cause order to Lawrence Lubiano, president of Centerways Construction and Development, who admitted donating ₱30 million to the 2022 campaign of Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero.
Comelec earlier said it was investigating 52 contractors, including Lubiano, for possible violations of the Omnibus Election Code, which prohibits government contractors from contributing to partisan political activities.
Lubiano was given 10 days to respond, Comelec spokesperson Director John Rex Laudiangco said Thursday.
Escudero, for his part, said he would comply with any directive from the poll body.
“I would also like to thank the Comelec Chair for finally affording me the chance to prove that I did not violate any law,” the senator said.
