Comelec issues SCOs against three candidates over violating anti-discrimination resolution

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) Task Force SAFE on Tuesday issued show-cause orders (SCOs) against three candidates for alleged violation of the poll body’s anti-discrimination resolution for Eleksyon 2025.

On Tuesday, Task Force SAFE issued Show Cause Orders to Nueva Ecija congressional candidate Mario “Kokoy” Salvador, Barbaza mayoral bet Faith “Pingping” Francisco, and Caloocan congressional aspirant Edgar Erice. They have three days to explain why they shouldn’t be charged for allegedly violating Comelec Resolution 11116.

“In view of the foregoing, you are hereby ordered to show cause in writing within a non-extendible period of three days from receipt hereof and to explain why a complaint for election offense and/ or a petition for disqualification should not be filed against you,” the SCO reads.

“Failure on your part to comply with this Order shall be construed as a waiver of your right to be heard and the filing of the appropriate case against you,” it added.

The task force gave Salvador and SCO over the remarks that he made at a campaign activity, which may be deemed violation as gender-based harassment, ridiculing persons with disabilities (PWD), and vilification of PWDs.

Additionally, Francisco was issued an SCO due to the “transphobic and homophobic” remarks that he made in a social media post.

Erice was issued an SCO due to his statements against his opponent.

“Provocative eh. Kung artista siya okay yan. Kung performing artist siya, dancer siya, okay yan. Kung nakalabas ang cleavage mo, naka shorts ka tapos provocative dance tapos nakalabas yung dila mo, maraming videos ang nakalabas ang dila niya. She is not just representing herself. She is representing two hundred thousand voters of Caloocan,” said Erice.
