The Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced on Wednesday that the March 30, 2026 Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) parliamentary elections will be deferred until a new date is set by law.
The decision was made through Comelec Minute Resolution No. 26-007, citing tight timelines and legal complications as key factors in postponing the polls.
The resolution noted that the current election schedule was too close to carry out all necessary preparatory activities, including voter registration and logistical arrangements.
Comelec also pointed to legal issues surrounding Parliament Bill No. 415 and ongoing Supreme Court cases related to the conduct of parliamentary sectoral representatives.
All activities previously scheduled under Comelec Resolutions 11181 and 11184, including assemblies, conventions, and prohibited acts related to the March elections, are now set aside and terminated.
The Commission emphasized that a new date for the BARMM parliamentary elections will be fixed only through proper legal channels.
Comelec assured stakeholders that the deferment is intended to ensure compliance with the law and the orderly conduct of the elections once legal matters are resolved.
The postponed elections will not proceed on March 30, 2026, and further announcements will be made once the Commission establishes a revised schedule.
