Pangasinan 2nd District Rep. Mark O. Cojuangco recently met with Bishop Samuel Agcaracar of the Diocese of San Jose in Nueva Ecija as part of his continuing efforts to build broader support for nuclear energy as a long-term solution to the country’s power needs.

In the dialogue, Cojuangco stressed that affordable and reliable electricity is critical to improving the lives of Filipino families and strengthening the country’s economic prospects. He said nuclear energy could help bring down power costs, giving households more room in their budgets for daily essentials while also making the Philippines more competitive in attracting investors.

“With nuclear energy, we can lower the cost of electricity to half of what we usually pay. This means that Filipino families will have more disposable income for other essentials like food and education. Furthermore, lower electricity rates will spur economic growth because it will make the country more attractive to foreign investors. An increase in economic activity means more jobs and better lives for our people,” Cojuangco said.

The meeting also underscored the importance of engaging leaders from different sectors in discussions on the country’s energy future. For Cojuangco, conversations with stakeholders such as church leaders are vital in helping the public better understand how nuclear energy could support lower power rates, stronger investment inflows, and wider economic opportunities.
