China voiced support for Iran’s position on Wednesday ahead of the expected signing of a peace agreement between Tehran and Washington.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi conveyed Beijing’s support during a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, according to Xinhua.
Wang said China supported what it viewed as Iran’s reasonable and legitimate claims.
He also said Beijing recognized Tehran’s efforts to protect its sovereignty and security.
Wang said the issue of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz should be properly addressed.
He added that China was ready to strengthen communication and coordination with Iran.
Beijing would also continue contributing to regional peace and stability, Wang said.
The United States and Iran are expected to sign the peace deal in Geneva on Friday. Tehran closed the Strait of Hormuz after the United States and Israel launched war on Feb. 28, followed by a US blockade on Iranian ports.
