Cebu OKs ₱85-M for temporary classrooms after Quake

The Cebu Provincial School Board (CPSB) has approved an ₱85-million supplemental budget to build temporary learning shelters (TLS) for schools damaged by the 6.9-magnitude earthquake that hit the province on September 30.

According to DepEd-Cebu, 570 classrooms were completely damaged, 1,101 had major damage, and 1,723 sustained minor damage. To keep classes going, 269 TLS will be constructed while major repairs and reconstruction are underway.

Provincial Treasurer Roy Salubre reported that the CPSB, led by Governor Pamela Baricuatro, still has ₱1.128 billion in available funds. An estimated ₱800 million in additional collections is expected, bringing the total fund pool to nearly ₱2 billion.

These resources will support continued assistance to DepEd-Cebu to ensure learning continuity for affected students.

Under Section 235 of the Local Government Code, provinces may impose a one-percent tax on real property assessed value. This goes to the Special Education Fund, which finances CPSB programs and projects.
