Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano is absent again Monday from both Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial and the Senate plenary session, with no explanation formally submitted by his office.
Senate Secretary Renato Bantug confirmed that his office had not received any communication from Cayetano’s camp regarding his absence.
Cayetano’s office had also not publicly disclosed the reason he failed to attend Monday’s proceedings.
The minority leader has missed Senate activities since August 11, including the chamber’s regular plenary sessions and proceedings in Duterte’s impeachment trial.
His continued absence came as senators resumed their duties as senator-judges in the impeachment court on Monday.
The Senate holds its regular sessions from Monday to Wednesday, while the impeachment proceedings have also been conducted on those days.
During Cayetano’s absences the previous week, Senate Majority Leader Migz Zubiri and Sen. Pia Cayetano indicated that the minority leader had not been feeling well.
No further details on Cayetano’s condition or when he is expected to return to the Senate had been provided as of Monday.
