Malacañang Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro vowed to intensify efforts against the spread of fake news and unfounded allegations targeting President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and his administration, warning that misinformation could mislead the public and influence decision-making.

Castro emphasized that false information circulating on social media affects not only the President and the government but also citizens who may be deceived by misleading claims.

She said the government would remain firm in addressing misinformation and allegations that lack sufficient factual basis.

According to Castro, such activities should not be ignored because of their potential impact on public understanding and judgment, particularly on matters involving governance and national issues.

The Palace official clarified that the administration is not opposing legitimate criticism, stressing that its concern is directed at statements and accusations that are unsupported by evidence and intended to damage reputations.

Castro underscored the importance of distinguishing constructive criticism from deliberate misinformation, noting that public discourse should be grounded in verified facts.

She also urged the public to remain vigilant against misleading content on social media and to exercise critical judgment before accepting or sharing information.

Castro maintained that combating fake news is essential to ensuring that Filipinos are properly informed and capable of making sound decisions that contribute to the country’s development.
