Malacañang announced on Monday the appointment of a caretaker group to manage the country during President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s upcoming trip to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Presidential Communications Office acting secretary Cesar Chavez confirmed that Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, and Agrarian Reform Secretary Conrado Estrella III will be responsible for overseeing the government in the president’s absence.
In previous trips abroad, Vice President Sara Duterte had been designated as the country’s caretaker.
Marcos is scheduled to depart for the UAE on November 26 for a working visit. While in Abu Dhabi, he will meet with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, with discussions potentially leading to new agreements between the two nations.
Philippine Ambassador to the UAE Alfonso Ver noted that the visit comes as the Philippines and the UAE celebrate the 50th anniversary of formal diplomatic relations, marking “a significant and symbolic milestone” in their bilateral ties.
