Capital1 and Chery Tiggo are set to battle for quarterfinal berths in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference qualifying round on Saturday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

No. 11 Capital1 will take on second-seeded Petro Gazz at 4 p.m., followed by No. 8 Chery Tiggo clashing with No. 5 Choco Mucho at 6:30 p.m. Both squads are motivated to advance, drawing inspiration from the Galeries Tower Highrisers’ shocking upset earlier in the week.

On Thursday, Galeries Tower, the No. 10 seed, stunned third-ranked Cignal in a four-set thriller, 25-17, 25-22, 19-25, 25-19, to move forward. Ysa Jimenez delivered a career-high 23 points, while France Ronquillo contributed 20 points and 13 excellent receptions in the victory.

Capital1 will bank on Thea Gagate, Des Clemente-De Guzman, Shola Alvarez, Roma Mae Doromal, Norielle Ipac, Heather Guino-o, Patty Orendain, Sydney Niegos, and Leila Cruz as they attempt to overcome a formidable Petro Gazz squad led by Brooke Van Sickle, Myla Pablo, Aiza Pontillas, Remy Palma, and Nicole Tiamzon.

Meanwhile, Chery Tiggo’s hopes will rest on Cess Robles, Ara Galang, Julia Samonte, Mary Rhose Dapol, Seth Rodriguez, Cza Carandang, Pauline Gaston, and Shaya Adorador. They will be up against a strong Choco Mucho lineup featuring Sisi Rondina, Isa Molde, Dindin Manabat, Maika Ortiz, Royse Tubino, Cherry Nunag, Lorraine Pecana, and Mars Alba.

The winners of Saturday’s encounters will secure spots in the quarterfinals alongside Creamline and Galeries Tower.

However, the losing teams will still have a chance to advance via the play-in tournament. Group 1 will consist of teams ranked 7th, 10th, and 11th, while Group 2 will feature teams ranked 8th, 9th, and 12th. Both groups will compete in a single round-robin format, with the top team from each group clinching the final two quarterfinal berths.

The qualifying round wraps up on Tuesday, with No. 6 Farm Fresh facing No. 7 Akari, and No. 4 PLDT taking on No. 9 ZUS Coffee.
