At least 11 people were killed in three separate shootings across the Cape Town metropolitan area, South African police said Sunday.
The attacks took place in Khayelitsha, Langa and Gugulethu, prompting authorities to launch separate investigations.
In Khayelitsha, three men aged 25, 31 and 35 were shot dead in the Lingelethu West area.
A second shooting in Langa left five people dead, including four men and one woman, along Winnie Mandela Street.
In Gugulethu, three people were killed and two others were injured in an attack at the Barcelona informal settlement.
Police deployed additional personnel to the affected areas and other locations considered vulnerable to further violence.
Western Cape police commissioner Lieut. Gen. Sizakhele Dyantyi said investigators had not yet established a motive for the shootings.
Authorities also offered a reward of 100,000 South African rand for information leading to the arrest of those responsible, while police continued to flag gang violence and illegal firearms as major security concerns in the province.
