Newly proclaimed senator Camille Villar said she supports a legislative inquiry into PrimeWater Infrastructure Corp., a company owned by her family, amid complaints of service disruptions in multiple areas nationwide.
“As I have said prior to elections, kung iyan ang ginusto ng mayorya ng tao ay wini-welcome natin iyan,” Villar said after her proclamation on Saturday at The Manila Hotel Tent City.
The Bayan Muna Party-list and several consumers earlier filed a formal complaint with Malacañang, calling for the cancellation of all joint venture deals between PrimeWater and local water districts, citing service failures and legal violations. Congress was also urged to investigate frequent water interruptions in areas like San Jose del Monte (Bulacan), Bacolod City (Negros Occidental), Quezon, Cavite, and Bukidnon.
Aside from backing the probe, Villar said she will focus on legislation that promotes job creation, supports overseas Filipino workers, and strengthens labor-intensive industries.
Villar, 40, is the youngest among the newly elected senators and one of six winners from the administration-backed Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas coalition. Other members include Erwin Tulfo, Panfilo Lacson, Vicente Sotto III, and reelected Senators Lito Lapid and Pia Cayetano. Her older brother, Mark Villar, is also a sitting senator.
Completing the Senate’s winning slate are Senators Bong Go, Ronald Dela Rosa, Imee Marcos, and new senators Bam Aquino, Francis Pangilinan, and Rodante Marcoleta.
