Calvin Abueva has quickly made his mark on NorthPort following his trade from Magnolia, which was finalized on May 27. In his debut, he scored 18 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and dished out three assists against Phoenix. He followed that performance with 19 points and eight rebounds in a 113-108 win over league-leading NLEX.
Assistant coach Rensy Bajar expressed satisfaction with Abueva’s contributions, stating, “Calvin [Abueva] is a very positive player, so it helps us a lot.” He noted that Abueva’s energy has been crucial in helping NorthPort end an eight-game losing streak. Bajar acknowledged that while Abueva joined the team late in the season, his professionalism and encouragement have been beneficial.
Teammate Cade Flores also praised Abueva, calling him a “good addition” to the team. “Calvin’s just like me, an overly energetic player on the court. Having somebody that has the same energy really lifts the spirits and lifts the energy in our team,” Flores said. He highlighted that Abueva’s hard work inspires others to elevate their performance as well.
