Cagayan de Oro grants aid to solo parents

For the first time, the Cagayan de Oro City government distributed PHP7 million in financial aid to 1,000 indigent solo parents on Wednesday.

Mayor Rolando Uy said the program, implemented by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), fulfills the city’s obligation under Republic Act 11861 or the Expanded Solo Parents’ Welfare Act.

“This is the first time in our city that there is a subsidy for solo parents,” Uy said.

The City Council earlier approved a one-time annual subsidy of PHP7,000 for qualified solo parents.

Under national law, solo parents may also receive a PHP1,000 monthly cash subsidy from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Barangays have been directed to update their lists of indigent solo parents to ensure eligibility for the next round of subsidies.
