The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (Caap) has issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) for flights near Mayon Volcano in Albay.
Caap said the advisory covers flights near the volcano with vertical limits from the surface up to 11,000 feet.
The notice is in effect from 8:36 a.m. Wednesday until 9 a.m. on Thursday, December 11.
“Flight operators are advised to avoid flying close to the volcano,” Caap said.
The NOTAM followed the release of new close-up photographs of Mayon’s summit by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Phivolcs said the images taken from Monday to Wednesday show new spines of dark lava extruded from the summit lava dome.
According to the agency, the formation of new spines “signals the presence of new and shallow magma within the edifice.”
“The extrusion of new lava led to the increase of rockfall from the 2025 average of 3 events/day to 16 events/day in December 2025,” Phivolcs said.
Mayon remains under Alert Level 1, indicating low-level unrest.
Phivolcs also reminded the public that entry into the six-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone “must be strictly prohibited due to increased chances of volcanic hazards with this development.”
