President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has denied any involvement in the House of Representatives decision to initiate impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte, stating that the move is solely within Congress’ jurisdiction as mandated by the 1987 Constitution.
Speaking on the matter, Marcos reaffirmed the legislature’s independence, emphasizing that lawmakers are duty-bound to uphold due process.
“Congress has no choice but to allow the impeachment process to proceed, as our Constitution requires. This is a matter for our legislators to handle,” he said.
Marcos also acknowledged that his son, Ilocos Norte Representative Sandro Marcos, consulted him regarding the issue. However, he maintained that he advised his son to follow his constitutional duty and support the process dictated by law.
“My opinion on whether the Vice President should be impeached doesn’t matter. The decision rests entirely in the hands of Congress,” he stated.
The President’s remarks come amid growing political tensions following the House’s move to initiate impeachment proceedings, which has sparked intense debate among political circles and the public.
