“Tech, particularly AI, is one of the most inclusive fields today,” says Sujatha S. Iyer, head of AI Security at ManageEngine, Zoho Corp. “With the rise of remote work and a focus on individual contributions rather than geographical location, women now have more opportunities to thrive in this space than ever before.”
Southeast Asia exemplifies this positive trend, where women hold 34% to 40% of technology-related roles. However, Iyer emphasizes the crucial role of mentorship and visible female role models in further bridging the gap.
“For young women entering tech, my advice is simple: stay curious, seek mentorship, and don’t buy into the myth that tech is male-dominated. There is room for everyone, and women’s perspectives are essential to shaping the future of technology.”
Overcoming self-doubt and imposter syndrome
A study on imposter syndrome found that 70% of professionals have felt self-doubt or like an imposter at some point in their careers. Given the historical underrepresentation in the field, women in tech are particularly susceptible to this challenge.
“Like many women in tech, I have battled moments of self-doubt,” Iyer shares. “In AI, where there are often multiple ways to solve a problem, the fear of failure can be paralyzing. But I learned that success is not always about getting things perfect—it’s about the journey of continuous learning.”

“Early in my career, I received invaluable advice from a product marketing manager who told me always to consider the customer’s perspective.
That insight has shaped the way I approach problem-solving,” she says.
Iyer also draws inspiration from Sheryl Sandberg’s Lean In philosophy. “I mentor women who struggle with self-doubt and encourage them to step into their power confidently. We must claim our seats at the table and make our voices heard.”
